Can AI Build a Production-Ready Website?
Use AI for implementation assistance while treating testing, security, content accuracy and operations as release requirements.

AI can help generate layouts, code, tests and draft content. A production-ready website is a verified operating system, not simply a convincing preview. Whether AI contributed to the code does not remove responsibility for what the site does or tells visitors.
Separate a demonstration from a release
A demo may use sample records, placeholder policies and simulated submissions. Before release, identify each assumption and replace it with working behaviour or an honest explanation. A contact form that always shows success is not a delivery system. A security check in the interface is not server-side authorisation.
Review generated code as untrusted work
Check dependencies, data handling, permissions and error paths. Do not paste credentials or sensitive customer information into prompts. Confirm that copied configuration does not expose staging data or block production indexing. Review third-party service terms and actual integration capabilities before relying on them.
Test real journeys
- Navigate with a keyboard and a narrow phone viewport.
- Submit invalid data, recover and confirm the actual delivery result.
- Open direct URLs and test missing-page responses.
- Inspect canonical URLs, robots rules, sitemap and language alternates.
- Verify images, content claims and contact information.
- Test rollback and access to hosting and domain accounts.
These are examples of release checks, not a complete security certification. Match the depth of review to the data and consequences involved.
Keep people accountable
Assign an owner for business content, implementation review and operations. AI-generated explanations can sound certain while omitting a failure mode. Require evidence such as a passing test, a documented source or a visible delivered record where appropriate.
Use AI where feedback is strong
AI assistance is most useful when the task is bounded and the result can be evaluated. Treat it as part of a development process with review, rather than a replacement for that process. The web application development guide describes the milestones that still matter regardless of how code is written.
