Website Conversion Rate Optimization
Define the outcome, find friction and test changes using reliable measurement rather than superficial click increases.

Conversion rate optimisation improves the proportion of relevant visits that complete a valuable action. Begin by defining the action and its denominator. A form submission rate per session and a qualified-enquiry rate per visitor answer different questions and should not be compared as if they were the same metric.
Measure completion honestly
Track an actual successful submission or other meaningful outcome, not only the click on a submit button. Mark the relevant event appropriately in your analytics tool. Respect privacy requirements and avoid including names, emails or message bodies in event parameters.
Find the point of uncertainty
Review the journey from landing page to enquiry. Can visitors understand who the service fits, what happens next and what information is required? A hypothetical consultancy might receive more useful enquiries by explaining the discovery process than by changing the button colour. This is a hypothesis to test, not a guaranteed result.
Reduce unnecessary friction
Use clear labels, helpful errors and only necessary fields. Preserve entered values after an error where appropriate. Test on a phone with the keyboard open and with keyboard-only navigation. Do not remove a field that the team genuinely needs without deciding how to obtain that information later.
Design a valid test
| Test element | What to decide |
|---|---|
| Hypothesis | Why should this change improve the task? |
| Primary outcome | Which meaningful action will be measured? |
| Guardrails | Could lead quality or accessibility worsen? |
| Exposure | Are the compared audiences reasonably similar? |
| Decision | How will uncertainty and limited traffic be handled? |
Low traffic may not support a useful split test. In that case, combine task-based usability observations with cautious before-and-after measurement rather than declaring statistical certainty.
Improve quality, not only volume
Review whether enquiries are relevant and whether the team follows up. A misleading offer can increase submissions while wasting staff and customer time. Use traffic but no leads to diagnose the broader problem before optimising a single control.
